Why have your entire engine compartment cleaned?
Surprising to some, having a clean engine and battery will make your car run better, cooler and be more dependable. Removing the mixture of oil, road salt and other contaminants from the electrical components (especially in the spring) will help prevent corrosion. This happens when this cocktail of residue builds up and dries on the wiring in layers during the winter or from ocean air. Whenever the salt residue mixes with moisture again, (like when rainwater is splashed into the engine compartment or from the normal condensation of moisture under the hood) what you end up with is the concentrated saltwater soaking into all the components under the hood. If you remember back to science class, salt water conducts electricity. Having saltwater on the wiring and engine often causes the electricity running through the wiring to be dispersed around the seals or through the wiring to unintended areas of your engine.
This is particularly true after the vehicle is 2 or 3 years old and the electrical wiring and components start to become somewhat porous. Therefore, less electricity is allowed to flow directly through the wiring to the computer and spark plugs than is required for proper functioning, Thus causing the engine to run with less power, run rough or have the cylinders and spark plugs become flooded with gas, which causes a no start situation. This increases the potential for extra wear and tear on the entire electrical system, cylinder walls and accelerated corrosion of other mechanical components.

Batteries also need to be cleaned off occasionally. The chemical build up on the top of a battery is an even better conductor of electricity than salt water. In fact, an amount of residue barely visible on a battery can create a draw from the battery similar to that of a light bulb being left on in a car. If your car battery runs down when you let it sit for a few days, that could be the cause. Other things, like when an automatic turn off switch malfunctions and causes a trunk or engine compartment light to stay on, does the same thing. Another potential cause is a short inside the battery itself. A quality battery test from a service center will detect short circuits.
A clean engine and engine compartment will also make the inside of a car smell better by removing excess oil and other deposits from the engine compartment. These things can create odors when wet or by becoming hot and can make their way inside your car.
